Cape Town - Wayne Rooney has arrived in America to meet with representatives of MLS side DC United, according to media reports.
His trip is expected to last less than 48 hours and will include a medical, a meeting with club executives and a tour of DC United’s new, under-construction stadium, according to the Washington Post.
The BBC reported that the 32-year-old Everton striker has agreed a deal in principle with the Washington-based club and will sign until the end of the 2020 MLS season, despite having a year left on his contract with the Toffees.
Rooney returned to Goodison Park last summer after 13 seasons at Manchester United, during which time he won five Premier League titles and the Champions League
He scored 253 goals in 559 appearances at Old Trafford.
Everton are apparently reluctant to let Rooney go, but have given the striker permission to speak to the American club.
Rooney made 40 appearances for Everton in all competition last season and scored 11 goals.
