Cape Town - Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi is training with the Red Devils at the invitation of former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, as the forward is seeking a new club.
The Italy forward started his career at Old Trafford in 2004 where he managed four goals in 14 appearances in all competitions.
He later also played for Newcastle United, Parma, Villarreal, Fiorentina, Levante, Celta Vigo and Genoa.
However, his career perhaps never hit the heights his talent deserved largely due to a number of major knee injuries which have required surgery.
Nonetheless, the forward has still managed a prolific 128 goals in 337 appearances for all the clubs he has played for. In addition, the 31-year-old managed seven strikes in 30 appearances for Italy.
Solskjaer explained to United's official website that there are no plans to sign Rossi, though he hoped another team would come in and make an offer.
He said: "We're not going to sign Giuseppe I think, no, but he's trained well with us.
"He looks sharp, he's looking for a club so Giuseppe is probably going to stay with us for another week, unless someone takes him.
"He scored a fantastic goal yesterday [Saturday] in training. The gaffer [Sir Alex Ferguson] turned around and said 'what about that son?'
"It's a bit of us helping him to get fit before his next move, so if there are any takers you should be quick!"
Rossi revealed that he had recently had breakfast with Alex Ferguson at Carrington with the former Man United manager still able to remember his transfer fee when he left the club for Villareal.
"I had breakfast with him at Carrington the other day,' Rossi told the Daily Mail of the man he believes is 'the best manager who ever lived'.
"We were talking and talking and he still remembers the transfer fee when I got sold.
"Just think about it: it was 11 years ago and in that 11-year span there have been hundreds of transfer fees and he still remembered my transfer fee when I went to Villarreal.
"It's great to see him in high spirits and great to see him just being about here on the football field."
