Cape Town - West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere has moved to allay fan's injury fears, saying he merely suffered a dead leg during Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Manchester City.
The former England midfielder has suffered with injury problems throughout his career and he moved from Arsenal after years of frustration being in and out of their side.
His move to West Ham a year ago did not see much of a change in fortune and he spent most of last term on the sidelines with an ankle problem.
When he did play he showed glimpses of the form that had made him an England regular but it was never for long enough.
This summer much was expected of the 27-year-old after he enjoyed a solid pre-season campaign where he looked sharp and fit and ready for action.
All that came to a juddering halt in the opening-day hammering by Premier League champions Manchester City at the London Stadium, after he failed to reappear for the second half, sparking fears of a fresh injury blow.
Thankfully Wilshere has played those fears down and says he picked up a small deal leg.
He said: "I'm fine, that's part of playing in the Premier League, you get kicks, I've got a dead leg but it will be gone soon."
Wilshere was not the only Hammers star to be affected by injury at the weekend as Ukrainian winger Andriy Yarmolenko was also absent, sparking fears he may have suffered an injury setback.
The wideman has enjoyed a decent pre-season campaign and has fought his way back to fitness after being out from October last term, after rupturing his Achilles tendon in the defeat to Spurs.
He has featured in six pre-season games as he gets back to full fitness, but, such is the competition for midfield berths at the London Stadium, he was left out of the squad for the opener.
West Ham will be careful before throwing him back into the first team fray for competitive matches as his injury was the second time in his career he has damaged his Achilles.
Meanwhile, Brazilian play-maker Felipe Anderson was also an injury worry after the game after he was replaced by Manuel Lanzini in the second half on Saturday lunchtime.
His substitution was merely a precaution, though, after he had picked up a knock, but he expects to be fit for the Brighton clash on Saturday.
