25 000 fans expected for MTN8 final in wet Durban

Cape Town - Moses Mabhida Stadium manager Vusi Mazibuko says 10 000 tickets have been sold for Saturday's MTN8 final between SuperSport United and Cape Town City, but he ultimately expects 25 000 fans to attend the game.

If that number of seats are filled for the lucrative final, it would represent a successful return for the Durban venue based especially considering the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are playing no part.

"We are very confident of reaching 25 000. We know that 60% of our supporters have this culture of buying tickets on the day of the match," Mazibuko was quoted by the TimesLIVE website.

"So we are banking a lot on that and the fact that some people will only get paid on the 13th (Friday).

"We are doing everything we can to encourage the fans to buy their tickets early. The gates will be opened at 16:00 and the PSL will provide entertainment which should include a lot of Gqom music with the likes of Babes Wodumo forming part of the acts."

Mazibuko added that recent heavy rain would not affect the playing surface, saying, "Fortunately we have one of the greatest drainage systems in the stadium and it has helped a lot preserving the condition of the pitch in situations like the one we had on Tuesday."
