Mathoho hoping to secure overseas move

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana defender Eric Mathoho is hoping to use the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to help secure a potential move overseas next season.

The Kaizer Chiefs centre-back has proved a pivotal figure for both club and country in 2014, playing every minute of Bafana's successful AFCON qualifying campaign while he has also helped lead Amakhosi to a 15-point lead at the top of the Premiership.

And, with the eyes of Africa, and the world, set to turn to Equatorial Guinea for next year's continental showpiece, Mathoho is hoping his talents can again come to the fore as he looks to impress the various European scouts.

"Everyone wants to be part of the national team and I’m happy to be part of Bafana Bafana because that is a hop window for European teams," Mathoho is quoted as saying by Kick Off.

Mathoho went on to reveal the fact he is so familiar with his national team-mates, and new coach Shakes Mashaba, has made it that much easier for him to find his best game.

He said: "It helps that some of the guys in the Bafana team at the moment played with me for the Under-23s. And even the coach (Mashaba) was the one who was coaching us during that time, so it helps a lot in terms of my game because I’m familiar with most players."
