Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs legend Donald 'Ace' Khuse has put Amakhosi's struggles over the past four seasons simply down to bad luck.
The Glamour Boys have endured their longest period without a trophy since winning the Absa Premiership under Stuart Baxter in 2014/15.
However, the Soweto giants are showing signs that they might just break that drought, having made an impressive start to the season which has seen them rise to the top of the Absa Premiership standings.
The new signings have undoubtedly strengthened the squad and blended in well, with Serbian striker Samir Nurkovic particularly impressive. As well as making astute acquisitions in the transfer window, coach Ernst Middendorp has welcomed Erick Mathoho and Lebogang Manyama back into the side after lengthy injury lay-offs, with the duo looking to be getting back to their best.
All this has given the Amakhosi faithful real hope and Khuse, who gained legendary status at Naturena and was an instrumental figure in putting Chiefs right up there with Africa's very best, believes the universe is finally rewarding the club after a spell of bad luck.
"I think you can play well but if you don't have luck, you will always struggle. The team missed clear chances because of a lack of luck. This season they are converting them, it's really promising, even the new and old players are really showing hunger," Khuse explained.
"I don't think they were too bad in the past few seasons, luck was not on Chiefs' side, but now it seems like things are getting back to normal.
"The ancestors are with us again, they've heard our cries and pain. Even God is with us again because we always pray that things get better at Kaizer Chiefs."
Amakhosi are back in action on Tuesday, September 24 at the King Zwelinthi Stadium against AmaZulu.
