Kaizer Chiefs striker Samir Nurkovic insists he will always put the needs of the team above his own after seeing his goal-scoring output slowdown in the second half of the campaign.

The Serbian bagged a goal and an assist in his first six appearances before a head injury ruled him out of action for two games.

However, he hit the ground running after returning to action, netting seven times and providing one assist in his next seven league appearances to help propel the Soweto giants to a sizeable lead over the chasing pack at the summit of the Premiership standings.

He was unable to carry that impressive ratio into the new year, though, as he scored three times and bagged one assist in his next six appearances.

But Nurkovic has just one target in mind come the end of the 2019/20 campaign; winning the Premiership title.

"My goal-scoring ratio is not as important as the title at the end of the season," said Nurkovic, as quoted by SowetanLIVE.

"It is not about myself but about the team as a whole. If I see that a teammate is in a better position, then I will pass the ball to them and not be selfish.

"The ultimate goal is to achieve three points at the end."

Commenting on the coronavirus lockdown, Nurkovic added: "The lockdown is for safety‚ and our health is the priority.

"Right now, we (Chiefs) have to stay mentally strong so that when the league resumes, we come back stronger and do our best in the last eight games."
