De Reuck focused on Maritzburg, not transfer rumours

Maritzburg United defender Rushine de Reuck remains focused on performing well for the club, despite rumoured interest in his services by Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates.

De Reuck has been an ever-present for the Team of Choice this season to date, starting five cup games and 24 Absa Premiership matches.

His performances have reportedly caught the eye of some of the league's heavy-hitters in the Brazilians and Buccaneers.

However, when quizzed about these rumours, De Reuck said he was focused on performing well for the Team of Choice for the rest of the season and not a move away.

"I'm concentrating on Maritzburg, nothing else. I am a Maritzburg player. I want to help Maritzburg win games and improve as a team," De Reuck told SowetanLive.

Many fans thought the Cape Town-born defender deserved a maiden national team call-up when coach Molefi Ntseki announced his Bafana Bafana squad to Sao Tome e Principe last month, but the 24-year-old was overlooked.

"I was so disappointed to be left out, but these things happen in football. It's not a big deal, but to be honest, I was kind of expecting a call-up," De Reuck continued.

"My job is to improve. There's a lot of players who've been doing as well as me, so to be selected you need to be extra special... I’m working on that, to be extra special.

"To be honest I think I'm not far off the national coach's plans. It's my dream to play for Bafana and I'm willing to fight more than I've been doing to achieve it."

The Cape Town-born defender has never played for the national team before.
