Ex-Sundowns defender surfaces at Stellenbosch

Cape Town - Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker says the club are handing a trial to former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rheece Evans.

Evans showed potential earlier in his career as he caught the eye at times with Maritzburg United.

However, his career faded dramatically at Mamelodi Sundowns before he moved on to Ajax Cape Town where he also saw limited game-time.

The 28-year-old did not kick a ball in anger in the Premiership last season as it appeared his career had hit the skids.

However, the player has an opportunity to rectify his fortunes with newly-promoted Stellies.

Barker told Kickoff: "Yeah Rheece Evans is also joining us for pre-season training.

"We just invited him to see where he is at, to come train with us and see. He hasn't played for a while so we will get to see where he is at."
