Fileccia: I have my confidence back

Cape Town - Maritzburg United striker Andréa Fileccia says he feels rejuvenated after overcoming a frustrating spell on the sidelines with injury to play a part in the Team of Choice’s impressive run that has taken them to third position in the Absa Premiership.

Fileccia was mostly used as an impact player, coming off the bench in games after returning to full-fitness.

But the sale of Evans Rusike to SuperSport United in the January transfer window saw Fileccia earn a place in the starting line-up on a regular basis - an opportunity that the striker has grabbed with both hands.

The 26-year old, who joined Maritzburg from Free State Stars in 2016, has netted six goals in his last nine games in all competitions.

Speaking to SuperSport, he said: "Just after the first game I played against Celtic, I have been feeling the love at the club.

"I had not played in a long time, but I came in and I scored. From that day I have felt renewed and have been getting praises from supporters as well.

"That has made me feel renewed and it gives me the confidence.

"So when you play, you want to do better and better. It was very special for me because I came back from a tough time. I was not playing and after that game with Celtic, something changed.

"Now I have been playing regularly and the confidence is back. So far it feels good"

The former Ea Lla Koto striker added that the Team of Choice are set for a special season having climbed as high as third position in the league standings.

The Belgian striker believes the togetherness in their squad is the one big reason the team continues to do so well under Fadlu Davids.

Fileccia added: "I think we are like one big family. We do things together and maybe the strongest in the league when it comes to unity.

"I really believe that this year we can make something, maybe the cup and I not going to think about the league because it might be too much, but I really believe we can achieve something this year."
