Frosler frozen out by Wits over contract dispute

Cape Town - Defender Reeve Frosler is being frozen out of the Bidvest Wits squad due to a contract dispute and refusing to undergo a trial at a Portuguese Primeira Liga club.

Frosler refused the opportunity of a trial at a Portuguese second division side Vitoria Guimaraesas he was not happy with the standard of the club and saw a potential transfer as Wits trying to cash-in on their investment.

Additionally there is also a stand-off regarding a contract renewal with the 20-year-old refusing to extend his stay at the club with his current deal expiring in June 2019.

The Bafana Bafana international will be eligible to sign a pre-contract in January and has been strongly linked with a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Wits CEO, Jose Ferreira speaking on the Marawa Sports Worldwide show said that the situation with Frosler was not an ideal one.

"The opportunity was there for Gabadinho Mhango and Reeve to go to Portugal, unfortunately Reeve declined the offer to go on trial," Ferreira said.

"I suspect he has plans of at the end of the season going to another South African club, which I believe is sad that such a young talented player with such potential refused to train with a club in Europe.

"Unfortunately in South Africa these days, people who shouldn't have a say in the future of players, who are more interested in their self-interest advise players poorly.

"Reeve has a contract until the end of the season, we indicated that we wished to renew the contract but we respect his decision to not accept our offer.

"I can't understand how a 20-year-old player would decline such an opportunity, which would have been great for his future and it leaves me extremely sad."
