Loyal Polokwane veteran reveals why he down Pirates

Cape Town - Polokwane City veteran forward Jabulani Maluleke has revealed that he turned down a move to join Orlando Pirates last season and instead stayed loyal to his current club.

The 37-year-old Maluleke has been a consistent performer in South Africa's top-flight and helped Rise and Shine finish fifth in the standings last season.

Maluleke is from Soweto and admits he would have loved to play for one of the major clubs in his home town but turned down the Buccaneers after discussing it with his father.

"It's true that I received an offer from Pirates last season but I had a conversation with my dad and we decided that I stay at Polokwane City because they have been good to me, even though I would have loved to play in front of my people in Soweto," Maluleke said on SA FM's Sport On show.

Maluleke also said he is disappointed that he has been overlooked for the South Africa national team squads for a number of years.

The Polokwane City player said: "I am actually disappointed that I don't even have one cap for Bafana. It hurts, but what can I do?

"There were times when I felt that I was in top form, including last season."
