Mabokgwane using enforced break to recover from injury

Goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane is using the enforced break from football productively as he works to return from injury.

The Bloemfontein Celtic goalkeeper had been playing through the pain of a quadricep injury prior to all sporting activities being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The 32-year-old, who joined Celtic from Orlando Pirates in 2019, revealed that with the training programme supplied by his club, he is able to take the time he needs to heal.

Mabokgwane told the Sowetan: "It's easy to follow because we understand it, we are professionals and we are taking that responsibility.

"It's just guidelines, but you know exactly what you need to work on like I was struggling with a bit of injury and this gives me an opportunity to work on certain things.

"I try to look at the positives after this situation. For me personally, it works out best, because I can be able to recover fully. I had a quad problem."

Mabokgwane, who has also played for Mamelodi Sundowns, Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City, added that he knew he couldn't continue playing indefinitely without seeing to his injury.

He said: "I was playing with it trying to rest it in between matches, so I couldn't train. I would just prepare for matches and after that, it was back to square one... it was painful. Now I have the opportunity to sort it out completely."
