Maritzburg, Leopards share the spoils

Cape Town - Maritzburg United and Black Leopards shared the spoils in Wednesday night's 1-1 Absa Premiership draw at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.

The home side started well but created very little in the opening stages as Leopards kept a sound defensive line on the night.

Team of Choice forwards Siphesihle Ndlovu, Yannick Zakri and Andrea Fileccia showed threat but did little in terms of end product.

With that said, Karabo Tshepe came close for the away outfit as he hit a strike which United goalkeeper Richard Ofori parried over the bar.

However, United hit the front just before the break as Brian Onyango headed home from Deolin Mekoa's expert cross. 1-0 to the Fadlu Davids-coached team.

Nonetheless, coach Dylan Kerr's men responded from the penalty spot as Mwape Musonda showed composure to slot home.

The lively Mekoa nearly made it 2-1 to his side in the second stanza as his free-kick was saved well by Rotshidzwa Muleka.

At the death with six minutes remaining, 27-year-old Maritzburg forward Mohau Mokate was close to being the hero as his volley hit the woodwork and went wide.

It was not to be for either side as the shares were spoiled in Pietermaritzburg.
