Cape Town - Veteran defender Vuyo Mere has announced he is leaving Bidvest Wits at the end of the month having spent the 2018/19 campaign with the team.
Mere, who has been playing professional football in South Africa since 2001 when he started out at Hellenic, was a regular last season for coach Gavin Hunt's side.
He made 25 appearances in all competitions however it seems Wits are moving in a new direction on the right hand side of defence.
The 35-year-old joins striker Lehlohonolo Majoro in going through the exit door with the former moving to AmaZulu on a two-year deal.
Mere took to social media to announce his departure, saying: "I just wanna thank everybody at Bidvest Wits for a memorable season. Thank you to the players, technical team, medical team, support staff, the ladies in the kitchen, Sbale who cleans the dressing rooms.
"You all made my stay memorable one and I am truly thankful for everything. I wish the rest of the team a blessed season ahead.
"God bless you all my brothers and sisters. End of the road for me in the blue and white colours."
It's unclear at this stage whether the right-back will attempt to continue his career or will hang up his boots with immediate affect.
