Micho reveals game-plan behind Wits' slaughter

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Milutin Sredojevic says he studied every player in the Bidvest Wits squad and developed a plan that led to Wednesday's 4-0 demolition in the Absa Premiership.

An own-goal from Sifiso Hlanti, a brace for Augustine Mulenga and a penalty from Justin Shonga sealed the deal for the Sea Robbers at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

Speaking to reporters after the slaughter of the vanquished PSL champions, 'Micho' said: "We prepared every detail of the game. We knew what the opponent was capable of, with the type of football they’re playing and that they would rotate the team.

"With all due respect to coach Gavin, we know that he’s often going with several changes, but this was one of the hardest teams to prepare for from a scouting point [of view], because [the] coach had six changes.

"So, instead of going through their last few matches, we had gone to profile each and every [Wits] player to prepare properly from that point, looking at attacking and defensive aspects of their game.

"We knew we were playing a team that plays very forward and direct, with several crosses and many balls towards the strikers, trying to use the shortest possible way with long balls to enter into the last third.

"Having that in mind, we wanted to counter with our own way which is, no matter the risk, playing from behind and creating situations that the opponent’s first pressing line is avoided."

Bucs, who are four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns in second position, have two more games this season with Cape Town City and Free State Stars the opponents.
