Moeneeb Josephs reveals why he is loving life as a coach

Moeneeb Josephs says he is thoroughly enjoying his new role as assistant coach to Ayanda Dlamini at AmaZulu.

The former Bafana Bafana number one is now 39-years-old and last played for Usuthu in August.

With Jozef Vukusic sacked at the start of the month and Dlamini promoted as a temporary measure, the ex-Ajax Cape Town, Wits and Orlando Pirates shot stopper was asked to help out.

Now after settling into the role, Josephs - who admits he never considered becoming a coach - says he will decide whether or not to continue as a player.

He told TimesLIVE on Thursday: "Can I tell you why I'm having so much fun?

"They put me on the sidelines. I wasn’t involved with the team. Whenever they played‚ or whenever they trained 11 versus 11‚ I was sitting on the outside.

"I was far away from the action and it was frustrating me.

"And then they told me: 'Moeneeb‚ you are the assistant coach now'.

"I was so excited. I haven't stopped running at training‚ I think I've never run as much in my whole career!"

He added: "I never thought I'd enjoy coaching. But as soon as I took a session and I could see the response from the players‚ I immediately loved it.

"I said to myself‚ 'this is what I want to do. Nothing else. I want to coach'."

Dlamini and Josephs oversaw a 1-0 win against Kaizer Chiefs in their sole game in charge and as a result may be handed a more permanent role at the club.

"Ayanda and I were only going to be interim coaches for the Chiefs game so the morning after the match I asked the bosses: 'Do I come with my gloves to training?'

"They said‚ 'no‚ no‚ you guys continue'‚ so I’ve put playing on the back burner for the moment."
