Mokwena full of praise for Sredojevic

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Rulani Mokwena bears no hard feelings towards his predecessor and former colleague Milutin "Micho" Sredojevic.

Sredojevic spent two trophyless seasons at Pirates but left abruptly last month, only to resurface at Egyptian giants Zamalek two weeks later.

It took the Serbian coach just four games to win his first trophy at his new club, after Zamalek beat Pyramids FC 3-0 in the Egyptian Cup at the weekend.

Speaking to the South African media on Wednesday, Mokwena confirmed that he sent his former boss a message of congratulations.

“I’ve sent my congratulatory message [to coach Micho]‚ he’s received it‚" revealed Mokwena.

“We celebrate with him and we’re proud of his achievement and I think I speak for the entire institution.

“We were raised as people that understand that the cake is big enough for everybody and we celebrate other people’s successes and achievement because there’s enough for everybody.”

The Buccaneers are struggling to steady the proverbial ship following Sredojevic's departure, and are on a six-game winless run in all competitions this season.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mokwena's status at the club and their run of poor form, Mokwena doesn't hold a grudge against his former mentor.

“So we don't have any form of resentment‚ ill feelings or hard feelings‚” he added.

“When people do well we are the first as the institution to congratulate them‚ especially because once you’re a Pirates person you’ll always remain a Pirates person.

“When he does something [good]‚ we’ll congratulate and even when he goes through hardships‚ we also still support.

“That’s the type of people we are. We try to be good human beings and try to have good hearts. We have done that."
