Moon explains Kaizer Chiefs' problems in final third

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs striker Ryan Moon believes better decision-making in the final third of the pitch is key if they want to start scoring more goals.

Moon has struggled to hit the heights this season and is yet to get off the mark in terms of goal-scoring.

With that said, the 22-year-old has made just one league start and 12 Absa Premiership appearances in total.

Nonetheless, ahead of Saturday's Nedbank Cup semi-final against Chippa United, the player explained where they are going wrong up front and revealed that hard work was being done to try and improve the situation.

He told reporters: "We've shown glimpses of our strengths throughout the season, we just need to be a lot more consistent moving forward.

"I think our combination play, and particularly our forward movement, under coach Ernst (Middendorp) has improved a lot, so that's our strengths.

"We just need to work a bit more on our final third decision-making and we could score a lot more goals, and we'll put teams away if we score.

"I think even the games that we didn't really play the best, we still had good chances to kill the game, so we just need to be more clinical up front.

"We are definitely working on it. As strikers, we stay after training to practice extra finishing and making the right choices in the final third.

"We're also working with (assistant) coach Shaun (Bartlett), but we know it's a process and we just need to get it right. We have a former top striker in coach Shaun, who has been there and done it, so he knows what it takes and we're learning from him and coach Ernst.

"But I think it's also for us to put the onus on ourselves as players, because they can give us all the information and instructions but at the end of the day it boils down to us actually doing it."

Moon will no doubt hope to feature when Chiefs face Chippa on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth. Kick-off is 20:15.
