Mosimane: We will take a point

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane bemoaned a number of wasted chances in the 2-2 draw against Maritzburg United but was ultimately happy to walk away with a point.

Victory over the Team of Choice could have taken the Brazilians a step closer to the Premiership title, but Mosimane felt football was the winner at the end of the day after a good display by both teams.

Maritzburg eliminated Sundowns from the Nedbank Cup on Sunday and once again gave the Premiership leaders a run for their money, twice coming from a goal down to snatch a point.

Sundowns will now be under pressure to win their next match against Ajax Cape Town, as they can no longer afford to drop more points with Orlando Pirates having cut the lead to just four points at the top of the table.

“Yeah, good game of football. This is how football is played and this is what we need to give to people that go to the stadium, people who are watching at home," Mosimane toldSuperSport.

“Both teams pressing from the top, there is this thing of parking the bus and playing five people at the back. This is how football is.

“We tried to win the match, we were on the front all the time, we came here to win and unfortunately we could not win. But it’s okay. We have got to understand that Dennis Onyango has been our best player all the time. He made a mistake and is allowed to make that mistake.

“It’s painful, but it’s part of football and Percy Tau could have finished it off and then there is no story, 3-1 it’s finished. But we will take a point.

“We got our tactics right, even on Sunday we got our tactics right, but you must also give them credit for their inter-passing football which is terrific and that’s why they scored the goal.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
