Motupa on Sundowns transfer link: 'Why not join the best?'

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits striker Gift Motupa admits he is open to the prospect of joining Absa Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Motupa is being heavily linked with a move to the Brazilians fresh off winning the PSL Player of the Month for December.

The 25-year-old admits that Wits have been approached by Downs for his signature, but that he is not sure what on what the outcome of those negotiations were.

And Motupa, who has scored five goals and made 13 assists for the Clever Boys this season, is flattered by the links and admits it is every PSL player's dream to play for Masandawana.

"It's good. It’s a good thing, yeah. But I can't talk about it," Motupa told Goal.

"It is good because Mamelodi Sundowns compete in the Champions League every year and I believe that every player wants to experience that and win more trophies.

"In the past six years, they have won more trophies than any other team. So, everyone would like to play for that team."

The former Orlando Pirates forward believes he has the necessary experience to join a club of Sundowns' status, having previously played in the CAF Champions League with Wits.

"I have played in the CAF competitions before and I don’t think it will be a big adjustment (if he were to join Sundowns). And if you have the qualities, why not join the best?" he asked.

"They haven't approached me. What I have heard is that they approached my team, and I don’t know what happened there.

"But I am still at Wits, contracted to them and I can't speak about Sundowns. But if my team agrees then I would gladly go."
