Mutizwa eager to follow in Musona's footsteps

Cape Town - Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa is hoping his career can follow the same path as his hero Knowledge Musona and allows him a chance to secure a transfer to Kaizer Chiefs.

Musona's transfer to Chiefs a decade ago served as an inspiration for many Zimbabwean players, and Mutizwa is the latest.

The Arrows frontman has nine goals in the league behind his name and has set his sights on winning the Lesley Manyathela Golden Boot award, although he is some way behind current top scorer Gabadinho Mhango, who has 12 strikes to his name.

"I think Knowledge Musona played quite a good role at Kaizer Chiefs and scored some important goals so everyone in Zimbabwe wanted to come to South Africa because of Musona," he told the media on Thursday.

Musona scored 40 goals in 88 appearances for Amakhosi and with a tally of 32 goals in 99 appearances, Mutizwa believes he is well on track to match his idol.

"I don't think he scored as many goals as I did right now, I don't know maybe, I'll check out and see, but I don't think I'm too far. One day I will play also for Kaizer Chiefs, I will do what he did," Mutizwa continued.

"I'm okay here at Arrows but obviously every player wants to play for a big team. Right now, I'm comfortable at Arrows, everything is going well but in future..."

Arrows take on Chiefs at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
