Ngele wants first-team football

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Mogakolodi Ngele says he just wants to get back to playing first-team football after several frustrating months on the sidelines.

Ngele who spent last season on loan at Bidvest Wits, helped the Clever Boys to their maiden Premiership title and MTN8 success, but returned to the Brazilians after reportedly being priced out of a permanent switch.

And upon his return to Chloorkop, the 27-year-old has been frustrated due to work-permit issues, as Masandawana filled their quota of foreign players and the Botswana international was left to wait to be naturalised as a South African citizen.

"I am very happy that I have finally received my work permit. It was difficult to sit without playing. I am now working on gaining my fitness back," he told TimesLIVE.

With Percy Tau, Themba Zwane, Anthony Laffor, Yannick Zakri and George Lebese currently ahead of Ngele in the pecking order, the former Platinum Stars man claims he is not afraid of competition.

However, if hard work on the training ground isn't rewarded with opportunities to impress, he may need to venture elsewhere - with Orlando Pirates reportedly after his services.

"There is always competition everywhere and I like it. I will work hard to get into the first team because I want to contribute to the success of the team this season.

"If you are not playing, there is no use to stay put. You must find a team where you can play. I need to find a way to get on to the field [for the first team again]."

Since arriving in South Africa from Township Rollers in 2012, Ngele has scored 33 goals and registered 16 assists in 115 games across all competitions for Dikwena, Wits and Sundowns respectively.
