Pitso believes Chiefs and Pirates can progress in Africa

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates can progress to the next round of their respective competitions in Africa.

Pirates are set to join the Brazilians in taking part in the CAF Champions League whereas Chiefs are involved in the Confederation Cup along with Nedbank Cup winners Free State Stars.

Sundowns have reached at least the group stages on three occasions though Mosimane is hopeful that the other teams taking part can also advance.

He said: "I think Pirates will be in the group stages, the quality is good. I think Free State Stars has the quality to get to the group stages of the Confederation Cup, same as Kaizer Chiefs."

In addition, the former Bafana Bafana mentor added that it could be Wits who benefit as the taxing schedule on the continent may give the Clever Boys an advantage in the Premiership title race.

He concluded: "So when we have those six games more in the group, and the four games that take you into the group, that's 10 games hey.

"There's niggling injuries, fatigue, transit at the airport. That's about 30 percent of the league.

"It will give Wits the league because it's not good for Sundowns, Pirates, Chiefs and Free State Stars. In January they will be the team to match."
