Pitso explains delay regarding Arendse verdict

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane says the club requested a postponement regarding the Wayne Arendse case because they were out of the country in Egypt.

Sundowns recently travelled to the North African nation to face Al Ahly in a CAF Champions League semi-final - a two-legged contest they famously won 5-1 on aggregate.

As such, they put in a request to the PSL's prosecutor to delay issuing any sentence. Sundowns are facing a possible points deduction after fielding the ineligible Arendse in an Absa Premiership match against Wits last year.

The defender was not named in the match-day squad but was brought in at the last minute when Thapelo Morena got injured in the warm-up. This contravened National Soccer League regulations.

Mosimane told reporters: "You can't talk about league race when you don't know how many points you have. You don't know what you have, how can you say how many points you're going to get? You don't know what you have.

"We are still waiting, a lot of postponements because we were outside the country and the prosecutor told you he doesn't know when we are outside the country. He told you that he has to play with his children and eat with his children (over the long weekend) before so we have to wait a little bit (sic).

"This year we're going again, we don't know how many points we have, we don't know how many to be docked so whether the league race is there or not, we don't know.

"It's a pity it has to go like this. I hope next year it won't be like this. Let's all play whoever wins, wins."
