Johannesburg - A goal from Robert Ng’ambi enabled Platinum Stars to beat Bidvest Wits 1-0 in their Absa Premiership encounter at Bidvest Stadium on Saturday night.
Wits dominated possession in the opening half but fell behind when Ng'ambi headed home from a corner in the 17th minute.
Thabang Monare was inches away from levelling matters when his strike from distance rattled the upright in the 31st minute.
The Clever Boys were dominating possession but lacked any real creativity or invention in the final third and coach Gavin Hunt was forced to ring the changes.
After the interval, he introduced Amr Gamal and Gerald Phiri for the largely ineffectual Gabadinho Mhango and Daylon Claasen.
The changes nearly produced dividends when defender Thulani Hlatshwayo headed just wide from close range, while Phiri also went close.
Stars offered virtually nothing in attack as Roger de Sa's men seemed content to try and defend their advantage. With 12 minutes remaining, Eleazar Rodgers saw his glancing header drift just wide as the points went to Dikwena.
De Sa’s men moved out of the relegation zone and up to 14th spot on the log standings with 15 points from as many matches.
Hunt’s Wits, who won the title last season, remain rooted to the bottom with only two wins from 14 matches.
