'Title is not happening for Pirates', says Jele

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates captain Happy Jele does not believe that the Buccaneers are in with a realistic shot at the Absa Premiership title but wants to win Kaizer Chiefs when the two sides meet over the weekend.

The Soweto derby will take place at FNB Stadium on Saturday, with Pirates aiming to reduce the lead to top-of-the-table Chiefs to only three points.

However, Jele remains unconvinced that the Buccaneers can catch up to Amakhosi.

"We are not in the title race, two months ago we were 19 points behind, now we are in the title race?" Jele said at the Soweto derby press conference.

"It is not happening, some of the guys (other teams) have games in hand and can pick up points."

The defender did make it clear that despite not believing in the title challenge Pirates should still do whatever they can to beat their bitter rivals.

"For us, it is to finish in a good position at the end of the season. This weekend we just need to get the three points," he added.

"We have just got momentum now, for us it is important to finish in a good position. We were not happy about the way we started the season; all we need is to go step by step."
