Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Godfrey Walusimbi says the club waited until the last day of the January transfer window to confirm his release.
An initial deal was said to be in place involving Walusimbi going to Chippa United, while Daniel Akpeyi was to go the other way.
However, it appears the Uganda international declined to move to the Chilli Boys and instead opted to return home to his country.
The 29-year-old endured a poor first half of the season with the Glamour Boys and was eventually deemed surplus to requirements at Naturena.
With that said, Akpeyi still signed for Chiefs in the previous transfer window.
Speaking to the Sunday Monitor, Walusimbi said: "They told me that because I'm a national team player, I needed to get playing time and therefore I should allow and go to Chippa United on loan.
"This was on the last day of transfers. I asked them why they didn't tell me early enough for me to prepare myself because they knew this was their plan all along.
"I just decided to come back home and work alone as I awaited another opportunity. I just wanted to be free.
"It didn't break me. I just came back home and continued to work hard and good enough, the (Uganda) coach (Sebastien Desabre) knows my qualities and here I am. I'm hungrier than ever."
The Cranes have already qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt having enjoyed a successful Group L campaign.
