Wits slapped with heavy fine for Victor Gomes incident

Cape Town - Absa Premiership leaders Bidvest Wits have been slapped with a heavy fine, with CEO Jose Ferriera receiving a ban for an altercation with match referee Victor Gomes.

"The Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee (PSL DC) has found Bidvest Wits, Robyn Johannes and Jose Ferreira guilty on various charges including bringing the League into disrepute and making improper statements regarding a match official (referee) during their Absa Premiership fixture against Kaizer Chiefs at Bidvest Stadium on January 9," a statement said.

The DC made the following ruling:

- Bidvest Wits were fined R200 000; suspended in its entirety for a period 24 months on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence.
- Robyn Johannes was fined R100 000; R50 000 suspended for 24 months on condition that he is not found guilty of a similar offence.
- Jose Ferreira was sentenced to a four-match suspension of which two matches are suspended for a period of 24 hours on condition that during this period he is not found guilty of a similar offence.
