The latest reincarnation of the north/south derby in cricket form, in the shape of a Four-Day Series final between the Lions and Western Province which starts at 10:00 at the Wanderers on Wednesday, is quite the lesser spotted animal.

It's a common occurrence in the Under-19 Khaya Majola Week where the Lions, with their clutch of excellent cricket schools, generally face off against Western Province, which collects its might from southern suburbs schools.

With this final being the first of the interprovincial era that returned in the 2022/23 season, after the disbanding of the franchise era, this occasion has a lot of meaning to it.
