Cape Town - Former South African captain and cricket boss Ali Bacher says he was not surprised after the Proteas' Cricket World Cup campaign flopped.
The Proteas' were eliminated from the tournament after a 49-run loss to Pakistan at Lord's on Sunday.
In an interview with Netwerk24, Bacher listed three reasons as to why South Africa imploded.
"We have three outstanding players in this era - AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn. De Villiers is not here (in England) for whatever reason. He almost counts for two batsmen. Hashim is one of our best ever batsmen but unfortunately the years have caught up with him. Steyn is our best fast bowler ever, but could also not play in this tournament (due to injury)," Bacher noted.
Bacher's second reason is that "there are lots of young players in the team without much international experience".
His third reason for the team's failure is their "long batting tail".
The Proteas have won just one of seven games and the remaining clashes against Sri Lanka (Friday, June 28) and Australia (Saturday, July 6) are purely academical.
The South Africans have never won the Cricket World Cup after eight attempts since 1992.
