Scott-Efurd 9th in 3 000m at World Indoor Champs

Cape Town - Multiple South African national record holder Dominique Scott-Efurd finished ninth in the 3 000m at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Birmingham, England on Thursday night.

Scott-Efurd finished the race in a time of 8:59.93, 18 seconds off her personal best in the event and over 14 seconds behind the winner. 

The race was won by Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia in a time of 8:45.05. She was followed by Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands in second with Laura Muir of Great Britain filling the final podium position in third. 

A host of other South African athletes will be competing at the championships with the men's long jump trio of Luvo Manyonga, Ruswahl Samaai and wild card entry Khotso Mokoena turning out in the final of the event. 

Carina Horn will be chasing a place in the 60m women's sprint while hurdler Antonio Alkana will close out the SA campaign in the 60m men hurdles over the weekend.
