There were some promising signs at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha this past fortnight, but the South African flag only flew once when teenager Pieter Coetzé won the country's only medal of the competition.

Coetzé's bronze placed South Africa tied for 33rd on the medals table.

Thirteen South Africans participated at the championships, which had never been held during an Olympic year, as it proved a good opportunity to fine-tune and test themselves against the world's best in the build-up to Paris 2024 in July.
