When announcing his 23-man squad for the FIFA Series in Algeria, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos reiterated that he wanted to look at the future to find players who could aid the national team in the months or years to come.

After earning bronze at the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) last month, he made eight forced changes to the team due to injuries concerns to Evidence Makgopa, Mothobi Mvala, Khuliso Mudau, Lyle Foster, Lebo Mothiba and Sphephelo Sithole. Meanwhile, Percy Tau was given a break as the Bafana boss said that he had a bit of a mental strain from all the criticism he faced during Afcon.

But assembling the squad was no issue as Broos seemed to rely on new and old faces, recalling Thabang Monare, Goodman Mosele, Siyanda Xulu, Khanyisa Mayo, Grant Margeman and Mondli Mbanjwa to showcase whether they could be relied on even when they had been previously given chances at Bafana level.
