With the negative influence of contract rebel Alexis Sanchez now behind Arsene Wenger, the Gunners are once again a cohesive, family unit that showed little signs of missing the spice of Sanchez as they walloped Everton.
It’s not often that Wenger moves so dramatically in the transfer window but the Gooners have finally been granted their wish with the spend-thrift Frenchman splashing the cash on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. He made the perfect start to life in London and combined wonderfully with former Dortmund colleague and Manchester United castaway Henrik Mkhitaryan.
The duo, along with newly committed Mesut Ozil and the resurgent Aaron Ramsey, have Wenger in high spirits as he prepares to lead his side into the territory of one of the league’s most prolific strikers - Harry Kane - across town.
Wenger’s Arsenal trail their hosts by four points and he’ll go into the game knowing full well of the consequences should his side fail to replicate last week’s performance.
By kick-off Spurs will be hoping to finally put to bed the constant bickering of their performance against Liverpool where they rode their luck and then some.
Kane will be expected to do his talking outside of penalty decisions not that that will bother him much with his record now firmly entrenched in the history books. The England international is the second fastest to 100 league goals behind Alan Shearer, a player Kane could one day surpass on his current trajectory.
Mauricio Pochettino will be wise not to overly rely on Kane’s magic even if he has 31 goals in 32 games this season. The Spurs manager will be wary of Arsenal, the side who inflicted a season-defining 2-0 loss on them early in the season. Defeat that day sent the Lilywhites into a mini spiral and seriously dented their credentials as a Premier League contender.
Pochettino’s men must now re-write the short-term history and press on towards a commanding lead in the race for the top four. Bank on Kane to be among the scorers (6/10) and for the hosts to exact revenge (1/1) at exactly 2-0 (10/1).
