Lara van Niekerk emerged as South Africa's golden girl at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games. She tells Kamva Somdyala that, together with her coach, they have Olympics 2024 gold ambitions and the tournaments in between are just what the doctor ordered - especially when they bring gold.

The cost of splitting her Grade 12 year two-fold suited Commonwealth Games double gold medalist Lara van Niekerk just fine.

She figured at the time that her books would need her full attention, but her swimming commanded its own attentiveness.
