Blitzboks survive Spain scare, make it two from two
The Blitzboks made it two wins from two at the Perth SVNS on Friday, beating Spain ??-?? in a match that all but secures their progression to the Cup knockouts.
The South Africans had beaten Canada earlier in the day and will now play their final Pool A fixture against Argentina t 06:38 (SA time) on Sunday.
As was the case in their opener against Canada, the Blitzboks found themselves on the back foot early on after conceding a second-minute try to Spain.
Again, they recovered well and scores through Ronald Brown and Quein Nortje saw them go into half-time 14-7 up.
A Selvyn Davids try shortly after the restart gave the Blitzboks some breathing room at 21-7.
They would need it, too, because with just two minutes left Spain hit back through Anton Legoburu Anso.
Trailing 21-14 heading into the final minute, Spain came agonisingly close to scoring a third try but gave away a penalty on the ground with the last play of the game.
